Poppy and Shayne Hammond have lived and breathed Martinborough wine for the better part of thirty years. In 2012, the winemaker–viticulturist duo left their influential positions at the region's iconic Dry River, where Poppy had been overseeing winemaking since 2001.

The dream was to forge their own path that championed both Martinborough's capacity for world-class aromatic whites and pinot noir, in addition to catering to Poppy and Shayne's love of hospitality and entertaining.

Since their tasting room opened on Puruatanga Road in late 2012, Poppies Martinborough has consistently topped the ‘must-do’ list for anyone visiting the Wairarapa.

Poppies Martinborough specialises in highly detailed, Alsatian-inspired aromatic whites (pinot gris, gewürztraminer and riesling), as well as complex and long-lived pinot noir.

Poppies Martinborough will launch in Australia in April 2025.
SUSTAINABILITY.
All farming follows organic and biological principles, with a minimalist approach. Organic nutrition is at the forefront of all management, and detailed canopy management is carried out for vineyard hygiene. Each vineyard is dry farmed, meaning no irrigation at any stage.
All Poppies wines are vegan-friendly.
