Lacourte Godbillon is far and away one of the most exciting grower Champagne producers in the region. The estate is owned and managed by Geraldine Lacourte and her husband Richard Devignes. Based in the Premier Cru village of Ecueil (Montagne de Reims) the estate is planted 85% to Pinot Noir and 15% to Chardonnay. The vines have always been in Geraldine’s family with the Lacourte’s on her father's side and the Godbillon’s on her mother's.
Today the wines are better than ever, with a small team of 15 looking after all aspects of the estate, from the vineyard to the winery and beyond. The vineyard’s yields are drastically lower than that of the regions average due to their desire for unwavering quality, and the wines see longer time on lees and less intervention in the winery, with the pursuit always being purity, energy and length.
SUSTAINABILITY.
The vineyards of Lacourte Godbillon have been farmed organically since Geraldine and Richard took over in 2006. Certification was granted in 2020 with all wines utilising fruit from this vintage and beyond being labeled as such. Soil biodiversity is also prioritised which aids in the minimisation of sprays. In the winery there is a deep respect for the wine with all movements carried out by gravity and all chilling of the wines is carried out naturally in the vineyard.
